DANCHI RADIO – Taking Haruki Murakami’s “Creepiness” Seriously, with Hiroaki Nagahata and Quanah Takahata

Hosted by TaiTan, rapper and member of Dos Monos, KIKIKAIKAI PIN PIN DANCHI RADIO is a space for conversations with people he wants to talk to. KLEINSTEIN co-founder Yusuke Koishi joined Hiroaki Nagahata and Quanah Takahata for an episode on taking Haruki Murakami’s “creepiness” seriously.

Focusing on a close reading of Murakami’s latest work, Kaho, the conversation explored why he has so many detractors, the appeal and unease of his writing, differences in reading his work in English translation, and connections between literature, film, music, and fashion. They also discussed a reading of Kaho in which the theme of his “wall and egg” speech upon receiving the Jerusalem Prize runs beneath the story as an underlying motif.

The full episode is available exclusively to members of PIN PIN DANCHI. The opening segment is available on YouTube below. The conversation is in Japanese.
