ABOUT PROJECT

The works in “BEING AND TIME” provide insight to help us understand our BEING AND TIME.
The exhibition consists of the artworks of three artists, which are based on the attempt to throw questions about our being and fragile existence.

JÖRGEN AXELVALL

Jörgen Axelvall is a photographer and artist from Sweden currently based in Tokyo.
Before moving to Tokyo in 2011 Axelvall lived and worked in New York City for 15 years.
He published three photo books in the past “Instant Moments” (2014), “I was looking for Park Hyatt Tokyo” (2014), and “Go To Become” (2017). In 2013 Axelvall was the international winner of the “New Exposure Award” presented by US VOGUE and BOTTEGA VENETA.
His biggest exhibition to date, “OIDE”, was held at the Embassy of Sweden Tokyo, December 2015 – January 2016 and a selection of portraits from the extensive “OIDE” series was shortlisted at the 4th “International Emerging Artist Award of Dubai (IEAA)” and included in the “Best of 2016 book”, published by IEAA and Pixalib. In April 2018, Ken Nakahashi Gallery presented his inaugural solo show “KÄR/LEK”.

DAISUKE HAMADA

A photographer based in Tokyo. In 2008, his first solo exhibition “living, light” was held at OFR Gallery (Paris). In 2009, he moved back to Tokyo and started to work as a freelance photographer. His client includes various international magazines such as “AnOther Magazine” (U.K),“Dazed&Confused” (U.K), and “Purple Journal” (France). Since 2017, he is represented by creative management agency “STIJL”.

KLEINSTEIN

Founded by Yusuke Koishi in 2014, KLEINSTEIN produced and designed various projects in the fashion industry both in Japan and abroad.
KLEINSTEIN has worked on collaborations and curated wide-ranged projects that connect contemporary art and fashion, also has been engaged in criticism and writing. While working for COMME des GARÇONS, Yusuke was involved with projects including collaboration with Paul Stolper Gallery (London), and “the Biotopological Scale-Juggling Escalator”(2013) for Dover Street Market New York, realized by Reversible Destiny Foundation, founded by the artists Shusaku Arakawa and Madeline Gins. In 2017, KLEINSTEIN curated “SENSIBILITY AND WONDER”, the first solo exhibition of John Dove and Molly White in Japan at DIESEL ART GALLERY.
In 2015, MIKI KOISHI joined in KLEINSTEIN. Since then, KLEINSTEIN has been doing production activities by two people.

Established in 2017 by Mari Urabe, a physician and the Board Director of The Uzawa International Foundation. Since its establishment, the association has invited various experts from the fields of medicine, religion, and philosophy, to serve opportunities to think about life and mortality multifacetedly.
